Since 1991, INSIC has provided insight and expertise in current and future trends for digital magnetic tape recording technologies and platforms. Its participants include corporations involved in creating and producing tape recording hardware, media, systems and infrastructures.
One of INSIC’s primary goals is to make this information easily accessible and valuable for existing and prospective tape users. In 2024, INSIC has published two new papers, presented here by the LTO Program, to demonstrate and explain the enduring value of tape and how that value will increase in the decade ahead.
INSIC GLOBAL TRENDS, APPLICATIONS AND USE CASES FOR TAPE ADOPTION 2024
Offers an in-depth look at the current state of the tape market and summarizes the applications and workloads for which organizations are using tape today. The report explores macro trends like sustainability, the so-called “data explosion” being propelled by AI and data analytics, and the ever-strengthening need for cyber security. It explains how organizations in every sector are using and getting value from their investment in tape storage technology.
INSIC INTERNATIONAL MAGNETIC TAPE STORAGE TECHNOLOGY ROADMAP 2024
Goes beyond the current tape market to look deep into the advanced science and engineering expertize that will enable tape technology to meet the digital data archival demands of the next ten years. The report analyzes the key technology challenges, including but not limited to, tape media, areal density, recording heads and error correction, that engineering teams will have to overcome.
